The 2006 Canadian Grand Prix was the ninth race of the Formula One season, held on June 25 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. The 70-lap race covered 305.270 km in sunny, warm weather.

Pole position went to Fernando Alonso (Renault) with a lap of 1:14.942. The fastest lap of the race was set by Kimi Räikkönen (McLaren-Mercedes) in 1:15.841 on lap 22.

Race summary:
- The start looked like Renaults would lead, but Giancarlo Fisichella moved slightly forward at the start, allowing Räikkönen to slip past as the lights went out. Fisichella later received a drive-through penalty for the early move.
- On lap 1, Midland cars collided in a hairpin, forcing Albers out and causing damage to Monteiro.
- On lap 2, Montoya pressured Rosberg and the two collided, taking Rosberg out and ultimately ending Montoya’s race on lap 14.
- Schumacher spent much of the race stuck behind Trulli before finally passing him, while Alonso built a healthy lead.
- Räikkönen pursued Alonso from the start and stayed with him, pitting a lap later. However Räikkönen's pit stops caused problems: a rear-right wheel issue cost about five seconds, and a later spin on his in-lap plus a stall on leaving the pit hurt his chances.
- On lap 60, the safety car came out after Jacques Villeneuve crashed, marking his last F1 appearance at this circuit.
- After the safety car, Schumacher closed the gap and overtook Räikkönen on lap 69 due to Räikkönen’s error.

Results:
- 1st: Fernando Alonso (Renault)
- 2nd: Michael Schumacher (Ferrari)
- 3rd: Kimi Räikkönen (McLaren-Mercedes)

Alonso extended his lead in the championship with his sixth win of the season. Michelin celebrated its 100th win as a tyre supplier.
