1978 Pot Black
1978 Pot Black was a professional invitational snooker tournament held at Pebble Mill Studios in Birmingham, England. The event had eight players, split into two groups of four. All group matches were one-frame shoot-outs, while the final was a best-of-three frames on a one-hour BBC2 programme. The broadcasts ran from 6 January to 14 April 1978, starting at 21:00. Alan Weeks presented the show, with Ted Lowe as commentator and Sydney Lee as referee. Doug Mountjoy, who had been a finalist the previous year, defeated Graham Miles, a two-time Pot Black champion, 2–1 in the final. Mountjoy also made the highest break of the tournament, 101. The group-stage draw was conducted by Eric Morecambe and shown before the first match. The winner’s share was £1,000.
