Hara Gebeya
Hara Gebeya (Amharic: ሃራ ገበያ, "Hara Market") is a town in north-eastern Ethiopia. It is in the Amhara Region, Guba Lafto woreda, North Wollo Zone, and sits about 1,520 meters above sea level.
Population
As of 2019, about 28,000 people lived there (roughly 14,200 men and 13,900 women).
Religion
A 2017 survey found that about 86% of residents are Muslim and about 14% are Ethiopian Orthodox.
Education
About 69% of the population is illiterate. Around 14.6% have primary education or less, and about 3.1% have secondary education or higher.
Health
The town has one ART clinic, seven health posts, and five private clinics.
Railway plans
Hara Gebeya is planned to become a major railway junction. It will have a station on the Addis Ababa–Djibouti standard-gauge line. It will be the terminus of the Awash–Weldiya Railway and the starting point of the Weldiya–Mekelle Railway (both lines bypass Weldiya). It will also be the starting point of the proposed Hara Gebeya–Asaita–Tadjoura railway.
