Nissan Armada: A quick guide

The Nissan Armada is a full-size SUV made for North America. It has gone through three generations since 2003, with a wide body, strong V8 power, and roomy interior designed for families and those who need to tow or haul big loads.

First generation (2004–2015)
- Based on the Nissan Titan pickup, built in Canton, Mississippi.
- Engine: 5.6-liter V8 (VK56DE) with around 305 hp, later versions improved torque.
- Transmission: 5-speed automatic; drivetrain choices include rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
- Notable features: strong towing ability (up to about 9,000 lb) and three-row seating. A mid-cycle update brought styling tweaks and interior improvements.
- Design notes: rear door handles tucked into the C-pillar as a distinctive Nissan touch.

Second generation (2017–2024)
- Based on the Nissan Patrol (Y62), built in Kyushu, Japan.
- Engine: 5.6-liter V8 (VK56VD Endurance) with about 390 hp.
- Transmission: 7-speed automatic; available in 2WD or full-time 4WD.
- Trims: SV, SL, and Platinum.
- Highlights: larger, more refined interior and updated technology. In 2020, styling was refreshed with a bigger grille and LED lights, and the cabin gained a bigger touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and standard Safety Shield 360.
- Other notes: updated interior features over the years and a focus on comfort and family usability. Infiniti QX80 was the luxury sibling in the lineup during this period.

Third generation (2025–present)
- Based on the Patrol’s latest platform (Y63), assembled in Yukuhashi, Japan.
- Engine: 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 (VR35DDTT) with 425–460 hp and 431–466 lb-ft of torque.
- Transmission: 9-speed automatic; available in rear-wheel drive or intelligent 4WD.
- Trims: SV, SL, Platinum, Pro-4X (off-road), and Platinum Reserve.
- Key specs: towing up to about 8,500 lb; maximum cargo capacity around 97.1 cubic feet.
- Interior and tech: two 12.3-inch displays for instruments and a large 14.3-inch touchscreen on higher grades; wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto; a wireless charging pad; 64-color ambient lighting; and a premium sound option.
- Safety and driver aids: standard Nissan Safety Shield 360 on all trims and available ProPilot Assist 2.1 for hands-free highway driving.
- Special variants: Pro-4X adds true off-road capability with higher ground clearance, off-road driving modes, adaptive air suspension, all-terrain tires, and an electronic locking differential.
- New developments: the Armada Nismo was announced for 2025, marking the first Nismo variant for North America. The Armada line also includes a refreshed design and upgraded features, continuing Nissan’s emphasis on power, space, and technology.

Overall, the Armada is Nissan’s large SUV choice for families and buyers who need substantial seating, strong V8 or V6 power, confident towing, and modern tech, with improved off-road capability in the Pro-4X and advanced features across the lineup.
