1910 Kooyong by-election
On 24 August 1910, a by-election was held for the Kooyong seat in the Australian House of Representatives. There were 38,394 people enrolled to vote, and 21,980 ballots were cast (turnout 57.3%). The by-election followed the resignation of sitting Liberal MP William Knox, who did not recontest the seat.
Three candidates stood:
- Robert Best, Liberal, who won with 11,925 votes (55.5%)
- Alfred Lumsden Leger Erson, Independent Liberal, with 8,214 votes (38.2%)
- An Independent Labour candidate, with 1,363 votes (6.3%)
Robert Best became the new MP for Kooyong. The previous MP was William Knox (Liberal).
