Yoshimuriella peltigera
Yoshimuriella peltigera is a bark-dwelling, leaf-like lichen in the Peltigeraceae family. It lives in moist, neotropical montane rainforests and has a green alga partner. The species was first described in 1825 as Sticta peltigera, but that name was illegitimate because the type specimen was misapplied. Edvard Vainio later named it Lobaria peltigera in 1890, a designation that was widely used. In 2013, Bibiana Moncada and Robert Lücking established the genus Yoshimuriella to better classify this group, so the current name is Yoshimuriella peltigera (Vain.) Lücking & Moncada. It differs from close relatives by its lobe structure, a surface that is smooth to shallowly grooved, and a distinctive zigzag vein pattern on the underside created by secondary branches. The type specimen was collected in Serra do Caraça, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1885.
