Ann-Sofi Pettersson-Colling (later Saltin) was born on January 1, 1932, in Stockholm, Sweden. She is a retired Swedish gymnast who competed in the 1952 and 1956 Olympic Games. In 1952, she won a gold medal with Sweden in the team portable apparatus event. In 1956, she won a silver medal in the same team event and a bronze medal on the vault—the only Swedish gymnast to win an Olympic individual medal. Her vault landing was praised as one of the best Olympic finishes ever. She was Swedish national champion from 1951 to 1958 and was named Sweden’s sportswoman of the year in 1955. She later married sports scientist Bengt Saltin and worked as a doctor.
