Young, Gay and Proud

Young, Gay and Proud is a short, 95-page English-language book for teenagers who are exploring a gay identity. It was first published in 1980 by Alyson Publications. The book came from an independent group connected to the Melbourne Gay Teachers and Students Group, an early partner to groups that later formed the Gay and Lesbian Teachers and Students Association and Safe Schools Coalition Australia. A new United States edition was released in 1980, edited by Sasha Alyson and Lynne Yamaguchi Fletcher.

The story uses a character named Jack Woodhouse to discuss lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender topics in a simple, accessible way for young readers.

The book has been banned by some libraries. In 1987, posters in the United Kingdom claimed that the Labour Party wanted this book, along with other titles about sex, to be read in schools.
