Martin Nečas (born 15 January 1999) is a Czech professional ice hockey forward for the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL. He was born in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic, is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 195 pounds, and shoots right.
Nečas started his pro career with Kometa Brno in 2016 and helped them win the Czech Extraliga title. He was a top prospect for the 2017 NHL draft and was picked 12th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes. He made his NHL debut in October 2017 and initially split time between the Hurricanes and their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, while also spending time back in Brno to develop.
He scored his first NHL goal on October 16, 2018, against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Over the years, he became a key player for the Hurricanes, and in 2022 he signed a contract extension. In the 2022–23 season he led the Hurricanes with 71 points. In January 2025, Nečas was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in a three-team deal that also involved the Chicago Blackhawks; the Hurricanes received Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall, while Chicago reacquired a 2025 third-round pick as compensation for retaining part of Rantanen’s contract. He then joined the Avalanche for the 2024–25 season.
Internationally, Nečas has represented the Czech Republic in multiple events. He captained the Czech teams at the under-18 and junior levels and helped the Czech Republic win gold at the 2024 World Championship.
His father, Martin Nečas, is a coach for the Czech third-tier club SKLH Žďár nad Sázavou.
