Gary Hughes (soccer)

Gary Hughes is a Canadian former soccer defender. He played college soccer at Brown University and was named the Ivy League Player of the Year in 1995.

His professional career began in 1996 with the South Carolina Shamrocks in the USISL Select League, where he made five appearances and scored one goal. In 1997 he joined the St. Catharines Wolves in the Canadian National Soccer League. In his first season with the Wolves, they won the regular season title and the CNSL Championship, beating Toronto Supra 4-3 in the final.

Hughes returned to St. Catharines in 2000 when the team competed in the CPSL (Canadian Professional Soccer League). In 2001 he was selected for the CPSL All-Star team to face Morocco U-23, and helped the Wolves win the CPSL Championship by defeating Toronto Supra 1-0. He retired after the 2001 season.
