48th Armoured Regiment (India)
48 Armoured Regiment is an armoured unit of the Indian Army raised on 1 December 1982 at Meerut under Lt Col D. S. Dhadwal. It has an all-India, all-class composition, drawing soldiers from various castes and religions. The regiment is equipped with T-90 tanks and has taken part in counter-insurgency operations through the Rashtriya Rifles. Its insignia shows crossed lances with regimental colour pennons mounted with a trident, the numeral 48 where the lances cross, and a scroll at the base bearing the motto in Devanagari: Samman Ya Balidan, meaning “Honour or Sacrifice.” The shoulder title is the brass numeral 48. Regimental colours are red, green, yellow and blue. The regiment’s anniversary is 1 December, and its nickname is the “Tridents.” The current Colonel of the Regiment is Major General PS Dahiya.
