Yaşar (singer)
Yaşar is the stage name of Murat Yaşar Günaçgün, a Turkish pop singer and poet born on 5 April 1970 in Adana, Turkey. His family comes from the Çukurova region. He studied at Adana İsmet İnönü Primary School and Adana Special New High School, where he played in the school orchestra and gave his first on‑stage performance in 1985. In 1987 he moved to Istanbul to study business at Marmara University and began performing at venues like Moda Han Bar, while he also started writing poems. He formed a small band in 1991 in Mersin, then earned a master’s degree in international finance from Istanbul University.
Yaşar’s first album, Divane, released in September 1996, went gold. He won Best Debut by a Male Artist at the 1997 Kral TV Video Music Awards. His other albums include Esirinim (1998) and Masal (2001). In 2002 he toured nationwide with Masal Konserleri. Sevdiğim Şarkılar (2003), Hatırla (2005) and Sevda Sinemalarda (2006) helped his songs chart in Turkey. On 28 May 2011 he married Merve Oğuz, and they have a son named Kerim. Yaşar has been active in music since 1990 and has worked with labels such as Topkapı, Lirik, Tempo and Seyhan.
