XVI Corps (India)

The XVI Corps, known as the White Knight Corps, is a corps of the Indian Army. It was raised on 1 June 1972, with Lieutenant General J. F. R. Jacob as its first General Officer Commanding. Its headquarters are at Nagrota Cantonment near Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir, and it falls under the Northern Command. The corps covers a wide range of roles, including infantry and armor support, artillery and air-defense, anti-tank warfare, reconnaissance, jungle and mountain warfare, counter-insurgency, disaster response, and military engineering, logistics, and communications. In 2005, IX Corps was formed from the southern part of XVI Corps’ area, taking over two divisions. The current General Officer Commanding is Lieutenant General Prasanna Kishore Mishra (AVSM, YSM, SM).
