Uniformed Services Benefit Association (USBA) is a nonprofit organization based in Overland Park, Kansas. Since 1959, it provides affordable group life insurance and other financial services for active duty and retired military members and their families, honorably discharged veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and federal civilian employees.

Key points:
- History: USBA was created to help active-duty personnel supplement SGLI and cover combat-related risks. It helped remove the “war clause” from its coverage and expanded to include reserves, National Guard, veterans, and federal employees.
- Governance: A volunteer Board of Directors, made up of active/retired military members and federal employees, is elected annually and serves three-year terms. The board meets twice a year.
- Membership: Open to active duty, retired, honorably discharged veterans, National Guard/Reserve members, federal civilian employees, and their families. There are no membership dues.
- Insurance offerings:
- Group life insurance (term, whole, and blended) underwritten by New York Life. These plans often supplement SGLI or replace SGLI after leaving the military (instead of VGLI).
- TRICARE & CHAMPVA supplemental plans to help with out-of-pocket costs, administered by ASI and underwritten by Monumental Life and Transamerica.
- Cancer Care Insurance to help cover cancer treatment costs.
- Hospital Indemnity Insurance with guaranteed acceptance and tax-free benefits to cover hospital and related expenses.
- Member benefits: Access to affinity offers (auto insurance discounts, ID theft assistance, travel emergency services, etc.) and Long Term Care Insurance. A free Military Jobs Resource Center helps with transitioning to civilian life, including job listings and resume help via Orion International.
