Wild Ones (organization)
Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes is a nonprofit organization started in 1977 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Its mission is to promote environmentally friendly landscaping and protect biodiversity by using native plants. Today it operates across the United States, with 91 chapters and 29 seedling chapters in 34 states as of 2024, focusing on education and advocacy.
In 2008, with grants, Wild Ones opened its headquarters at the WILD Center (Wild Ones Institute of Learning and Development) in Neenah, Wisconsin. Members receive the quarterly Wild Ones Journal, and new members can use a handbook that guides native landscaping.
Chapter activities include plant rescues, plant sales, garden tours, seed gathering and exchanges, and various outdoor learning projects. The Lorrie Otto Seeds For Education Grant Program provides funds to buy native seeds and plants and to develop outdoor learning spaces for youth from preschool through 12th grade.
