Sasson Tunnel
Sasson Tunnel, also called Sasson tonneru, is a long railway tunnel on the JR Hokkaido Shinkansen. It lies between Otaru and Sapporo in Hokkaido and will be 26.230 kilometers long. Construction began in 2020 as part of the Shinkansen extension in Hokkaido. When finished, it will be the third-longest tunnel on the Hokkaido Shinkansen line, after the Seikan Tunnel and the Oshima Tunnel. The Hokkaido Shinkansen section from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto to Sapporo is planned to open in 2031.
