Water skiing at the 1981 World Games took place July 25–26 at Berkeley Aquatic Park in Berkeley, California. These were part of the first World Games, a new international multi-sport event held every four years and hosted in Santa Clara, California.

World record highlight
- On the first day, Ana Maria Carrasco of Venezuela set a new world record in women’s tricks with 6970 points during qualifying, breaking her own previous mark. She later won the women’s tricks final with 6710 points.
