Operation Darkness
Operation Darkness is a tactical role-playing game for the Xbox 360. It was made by Japanese studio Success and published in North America by Atlus. It released in Japan on October 11, 2007, and in North America on June 24, 2008.
The game blends World War II with fantasy elements like dragons, vampires, and zombies. You control a British SAS squad fighting Nazis across Europe, with French resistance fighters and American soldiers appearing as non-player characters.
How it plays: It uses turn-based tactical battles. Each character has stats and can move, attack, use items, pick up loot from defeated enemies, and cast spells. Long-range attacks are common, and cover affects accuracy. If a character dies, they stay dead unless revived by a character named Herbert East before the mission ends. Generic soldiers can replace fallen teammates. Characters can carry up to five weapons and five items, and heavier gear can slow them down. Two players can transform into werewolves for a speed and attack boost, but this costs stamina each turn.
Between battles you can resupply, buy items, and choose which characters will join the next mission. The game also offers online co-op multiplayer for up to four players, and completing multiplayer missions unlocks new items for single-player play.
Reception: Operation Darkness received generally unfavorable reviews, with critics like IGN noting multiple problems and Famitsu giving it a 23 out of 40.
