Turning the Mind is the second album by the Northampton-based project Maps, released in 2009. The record runs 59:28 and blends electropop and dream pop. It came out in Europe on 28 September 2009 and in North America on 20 October 2009, through Mute Records. James Chapman described the album as darker, angrier and more electronic than We Can Create, with themes about mental states and chemicals. In the lead‑up to the release, Chapman posted a new song from Turning the Mind every two weeks on MySpace, and on 11 August 2009 the track Nothing appeared on YouTube with an unofficial video. The album's singles were Let Go of the Fear (11 May 2009), I Dream of Crystal (14 September 2009) and Die Happy, Die Smiling (10 January 2010). The title track Turning the Mind was featured in the 2010 British film Chatroom. All tracks were written by James Chapman.
