Tony Award for Best Director
Tony Award for Best Director: One of the original 11 Tony Awards, first given in 1947 in New York City. It was presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League. The last winner was Elia Kazan for J.B. in 1959. In 1960 the award was split into two new categories: Best Direction of a Play and Best Direction of a Musical. Website: TonyAwards.com
