Waldeck, Saskatchewan
Waldeck is a small village in south‑central Saskatchewan, Canada, about 18 kilometres northeast of Swift Current along the Trans‑Canada Highway. It sits in the Swift Current River Valley and is part of the Rural Municipality of Excelsior No. 166. The name Waldeck comes from German and means “Wooded Corner,” probably named for the willows along the creek. Settlement began in the early 1900s, and Waldeck became an official village on December 23, 1913. Many residents have Mennonite roots. In 2021 the village had about 294 people living in around 119 private dwellings, on a land area of about 2 square kilometres, for a population density of roughly 148 people per square kilometre. The area is served by Highway 1 and nearby rail service. Elon Musk worked on a farm near Waldeck in the late 1980s after moving to Canada from South Africa.
