Outer membrane porin D

Outer membrane porin D is a family of bacterial outer-membrane proteins that act as channels in the cell’s outer membrane. They help transport positively charged amino acids, small peptides, antibiotics, and other compounds into the bacterium. Some sources have suggested they might have serine protease activity, but many members do not function as proteases. In fact, most are classified as non-peptidase homologues because experiments show they lack protease activity or miss the key residues needed for such activity.
