Vukša Veličković
Vukša Veličković (born 18 February 1979) is a Serbian writer, journalist, cultural critic, artist and online producer living in New York City. He has received the Milena Jesenska Journalism Fellowship, was a Chevening Scholar, and served as a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna.
He wrote a culture column for B92.net (2005–2007) and was the culture editor of the Serbian magazine Evropa until it folded in 2008. He blogs about London culture on City of Doom and has published essays on culture and politics across Europe.
He studied International Relations at the University of Belgrade. In 2010 he won a UK Chevening Scholarship to pursue an MA in Identity, Culture and Power at University College London’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies.
Since 2013 he has been Creative Director and Head of Digital Media at Hominid Studio, with offices in Belgrade and New York. In 2019 he led Hemofarm Foundation’s campaign “I am a donor, too. Because I support Serbia,” which won two silver UEPS awards and the Kaktus Award for a socially responsible integrated campaign.
His first novel Gužva (Crowd) appeared in 2003 with a book-soundtrack CD featuring Balkan electronic artists. In 2011 he founded the online culture magazine Bturn and was its Editor-in-Chief until it closed in 2014. He is an interdisciplinary artist who blends writing with music, video and photography.
From 2003 to 2006 he wrote the If I were column in Prestup magazine, exploring social roles through provocative voices. His second novel Vrt Uživanja (Garden of Pleasure) was staged as a multimedia act in Belgrade and Zagreb. As a live performer, he uses the stage name Frank Magnolia for trance blues music, releasing Almost There (2019) and Night Rider (2021). He has performed in many countries. In 2018 he won Belgrade’s CantOut singer-songwriter festival. His Live EP Got Juice Got Gas was released in April 2024.
