Alexander River (New Zealand)
Alexander River is a river on New Zealand’s West Coast in the South Island. It starts in the Victoria Range on the slopes of Mount Puttick at about 1,230 metres above sea level and flows west to join the Upper Grey River at about 215 metres elevation. From there, the water continues to the Grey River and finally to the Tasman Sea (Alexander River → Upper Grey River → Grey River / Māwheranui → Tasman Sea). In the past, the area around the river was involved in the West Coast Gold Rush, and a stamping battery stood on the river’s left bank.
