The Restorers
The Restorers is a 2003 American documentary by Adam White about restoring vintage warplanes, from the F4U Corsair to the B-17 Yankee Lady. White talks with people who spend years and a lot of money to rebuild planes for museums, air shows, or private collections, from home garages to big companies. Some planes end up in exhibitions or air shows, while others are rebuilt as racing aircraft.
Produced by Hemlock Films, the 60-minute film premiered July 19, 2003, in Dayton, Ohio, during the Vectren Dayton Air Show. It was released on DVD and VHS in February 2004. It won Documentary Feature Runner-Up at the Fargo Film Festival in March 2004 and debuted on Western Reserve Public Media on April 13, 2004, with a reair on June 16. A PBS broadcast made it eligible for the 2004 regional Emmy Award for Best Special Programming, which it won. There were limited PBS broadcasts in 2006 and 2008. While making The Restorers, White learned about the Red Tail Project, which led to his later film Red Tail Reborn. In 2005, White earned a regional Emmy Award for the film.
