Wyatt C. Thomas

Wyatt C. Thomas (died February 19, 1874) was an Arkansas newspaperman, lawyer, judge, and state legislator. He served as an assistant Adjutant General with the rank of captain during the Civil War. After the war he returned to Washington, Arkansas to practice law, then founded the Pine Bluff Press in 1869 and was editor-in-chief until his death. Maj. Charles Gordon Newman took over the paper until 1881. Thomas was a member of the Arkansas Press Association and served as the paper’s editor and publisher. He wrote a letter about the Battle of First Manassas. Governor Isaac Murphy appointed him special probate judge for Hempstead County on February 9, 1866. In 1870 he served as Secretary of the Arkansas Senate. He died in Pine Bluff after a period of illness.
