The Only Living Boy in New Cross
The Only Living Boy in New Cross is a song by the English indie punk band Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine. The title is a playful twist on Simon and Garfunkel’s The Only Living Boy in New York, replacing New York with New Cross in London.
It was released on 13 April 1992 as a single from their album 1992 – The Love Album, on Chrysalis Records. The track is 3 minutes and 56 seconds long. It was written by Leslie George Carter and James Neil Morrison and produced by Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine with Simon Painter.
The single reached number 7 on the UK Singles Chart, making it the band’s highest-charting and only top-10 hit. It also charted in Australia (number 70) and Ireland (number 18). In the United States, it reached number 26 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. The B-sides include "Watching the Big Apple Turn Over" and "Panic". In 1992 it was released between the singles "R.u.b.b.i.s.h" and "Do Re Me So Far So Good".
