The Coral Island is a children’s TV series from Australia and the United Kingdom. It’s based on the 19th‑century novel The Coral Island by R. M. Ballantyne. The 4‑part series runs about 40 minutes per episode and was made as a joint production by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Thames Television. Filming took place in 1981, first in Salamumu, a village in western Samoa, then on the Whitsunday Islands off Queensland. It was first shown in Australia on ABC-TV on 6 January 1983.

Set in 1840, the story follows three Australian boys who are shipwrecked on a remote Pacific island and must learn to survive. The boys are Jack, Peterkin, and Ralph. They cope with life on the island, with their different backgrounds and personalities. After meeting two island natives, they are eventually rescued by an English missionary and return home to Australia.

Cast: Jack — Scott McGregor; Peterkin — Nicholas Bond‑Owen; Ralph — Richard Gibson.

Written by James Andrew Hall. Directed by Chris Thomson, Ray Brown, and Ray Alchin. Music by Bruce Smeaton.
