Tarzan and the Amazons

Tarzan and the Amazons is a 1945 American adventure film starring Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan, with Brenda Joyce as Jane and Johnny Sheffield as Boy. It’s the ninth Tarzan film with Weissmuller. Directed by Kurt Neumann and produced by Sol Lesser and Neumann, the movie runs 76 minutes and is in English.

Plot
On their way to meet Jane, Tarzan and Boy rescue an Amazon woman from a panther attack. The woman drops a golden bracelet, which Cheeta the chimpanzee finds. Her ankle is injured, so Tarzan carries her through the mountains to the hidden Amazon city of Palmyria, with Boy following from a distance. After they reunite with Jane, explorers led by Sir Guy Henderson learn about the bracelet and other relics tied to Palmyria and want Tarzan to guide them there. Tarzan refuses, but Boy, hoping to help science, guides the explorers to Palmyria. The group is captured by the Amazons, and the queen sentences the intruders to hard labor in the city’s quarries. The Amazon woman Tarzan saved releases the captives, but Henderson is killed, and Ballister and Anders loot part of the treasure.

Boy is condemned to die, and Cheeta warns Tarzan. Tarzan reaches Palmyria, defeats Ballister and Anders in a muddy confrontation, and rescues Boy. He returns the treasure to the Amazons in exchange for Boy’s freedom.

Reception
critics called it a brisk, pulpy adventure with solid pacing, though the low budget showed in places. It was seen as a pleasing addition to the jungle series that offered enough variety for both young and old audiences.
