Bob Stoddard
Robert Lyle Stoddard, born March 8, 1957, in San Jose, California, is a former American professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball for the Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, and Kansas City Royals. He batted and threw right-handed, stood 6 feet 1 inch tall, and weighed about 200 pounds (some sources list 190 or 210). Stoddard attended Fresno State University.
Drafted four times, Stoddard finally signed with the Seattle Mariners after being selected in the 10th round of the 1978 draft. He had spent less than four seasons in the minor leagues before making his MLB debut on September 4, 1981, at age 24.
In the majors, Stoddard posted an 18–27 win–loss record, a 4.03 earned run average, and 223 strikeouts. He enjoyed two strong seasons in 1981 and 1982, with ERAs of 2.60 and 2.41. His 1983 season was less successful, with a 9–17 record, and after that his ERA remained above 3.00 more often than not. His final MLB game was on September 19, 1987.
Stoddard played for the Mariners (1981–1984), Tigers (1985), Padres (1986), and Royals (1987).
