Talca Province is one of four provinces in the Maule Region of central Chile. Its capital is the city of Talca, and it includes 10 communes: Talca, San Clemente, Pelarco, Pencahue, Maule, San Rafael, Curepto, Constitución, Empedrado, and Río Claro. The province covers about 9,938 square kilometers. As of 2012, around 370,000 people lived there, with about 267,000 in urban areas and 86,000 in rural areas. The eastern part is the Andean foothills, the western part is the Chilean Coast Range, and the central valley lies between them. The landscape has wooded mountains and a fertile plain that slopes gently south. Time zone is Chile Standard Time (UTC-4), changing to UTC-3 in summer. The area code is 56 + 71. Administratively, Talca Province is a second-level division governed by the regional delegate of the Maule Region, appointed by the president.
