Cloughton Formation
Cloughton Formation is a geological unit in Yorkshire, England. It dates to the Bajocian stage of the Middle Jurassic and is part of the Ravenscar Group. It has three members: Sycarham, Lebberston, and Gristhorpe. It lies above the Eller Beck Formation and below the Scarborough Formation. The thickness is about 50–70 meters along the North Yorkshire coast, thinning to 36–50 meters inland on the western North York Moors. The rocks are mainly mudstone and siltstone, with sandstone, limestone, and coal in places. Named for Cloughton, it preserves Jurassic fossils, including plant remains such as ginkgo.
