Suzanne Chazin
Suzanne Chazin is an American author from New York City who writes mystery novels. She is best known for two series: the Georgia Skeehan mysteries, about a New York City firefighter who becomes a fire marshal, and the Jimmy Vega mysteries, about a homicide detective working with immigrant communities. The Georgia Skeehan books are published by Putnam, and the Jimmy Vega books by Kensington Books.
Chazin was born in Manhattan and graduated from Northwestern University in 1982. She spent 18 years in journalism, writing for Family Circle, Ladies' Home Journal, Money Magazine, and The New York Times, and she was a senior editor and writer for Reader's Digest, where she won several national awards.
Her first Georgia Skeehan novel, The Fourth Angel, appeared in 2001, followed by Flashover in 2002 and Fireplay in 2003. Her first Jimmy Vega novel, Land of Careful Shadows, appeared in 2014, with A Blossom of Bright Light in 2015 and No Witness But the Moon in 2016.
Critics praised her work, and The Fourth Angel and Flashover were excerpted in the New York Times. She won the Washington Irving Book Award in 2003 for The Fourth Angel and Flashover. In 2016, Land of Careful Shadows was named one of the top five mystery books of the year by the American Library Association's RUSA. Chazin has taught writing at The New School, New York University, Sarah Lawrence College, and The Smithsonian.
