Recorded Live On Stage
Recorded Live On Stage is a 1963 live album by Motown singer Mary Wells. It was recorded during 1962–1963 at three venues: the Regal Theatre in Chicago, the Graystone Ballroom in Detroit, and the Apollo Theater in New York City. The album was released in September 1963 by Motown (catalog M 611) and features Wells backed by her backup group, The Love-Tones, who also provide an ongoing a cappella introduction.
A highlight is Wells’ live version of “Bye, Bye, Baby,” which surpassed the studio recording and became the way she performed the song in concerts. This was Wells’ only live album released during her early Motown years; other live Wells performances appear on the Motortown Revue Volumes 1 and 2.
The Recorded Live On Stage series also included albums by other Motown stars such as Marvin Gaye, The Marvelettes, Stevie Wonder, and Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.
