Sundar Nagar
Sundar Nagar, also spelled Sundernagar, is a town and municipal council in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, India. It was once the princely state of Suket.
Geography and people: Sundar Nagar is about 22 km from Mandi and sits at an elevation of about 900 meters (3,000 feet). As of the 2011 census, the town had a population of 24,344. About 53% of residents are male and 47% are female. The literacy rate is 82% (85% for men and 78% for women); around 10% of people are under 6 years old. The official language is Hindi, and the local language is Mandeali.
Transport and connectivity: Sundar Nagar lies on National Highway NH-154. The nearest airport is Bhuntar (Kullu), about 82 km away. A new Sundar Nagar International Airport in the Balh Valley has been planned for many years; in 2013 a proposal estimated a cost of Rs 700 crore, with detailed planning continuing in later years. The nearest broad-gauge railheads are Kiratpur Sahib (about 105 km) and Pathankot (about 210 km); Joginder Nagar on a narrow-gauge line is about 80 km away. Regular buses connect Sundar Nagar with Chandigarh, Delhi, Shimla and Jammu. The main bus stand is located above an open playing field along NH-21.
