Loriotus
Loriotus is a genus of birds in the tanager family Thraupidae. The three species now in Loriotus were previously placed in Tachyphonus. A 2014 genetic study showed Tachyphonus wasn’t a single natural group, so three species were moved to Loriotus. The genus was created in 1821 by Polish zoologist Feliks Paweł Jarocki, with the flame-crested tanager as the type species. The name Loriotus comes from the French loriot, a word used for Old World orioles. There are three species in Loriotus.
