Sumulong Highway
Sumulong Highway is a major road in the Philippines that links Marikina in Metro Manila with Antipolo and Cainta in Rizal. It covers about 12.7 kilometers (7.9 miles). The road was built in 1960 and named after Don Juan Sumulong, a senator from Antipolo.
Since 2014, it has been part of National Route 59 (N59) in the national highway system. The highway starts at the intersection of Andres Bonifacio Avenue and J.P. Rizal Street in Marikina, then goes east into Rizal Province, passing through Cainta and Antipolo. It meets Marcos Highway (Marikina-Infanta Highway) at Masinag Junction, then continues through hilly terrain to end at Sen. Lorenzo Sumulong Memorial Circle in Antipolo. From there, J.P. Rizal Street continues toward Antipolo city proper.
A section between the Rizal boundary and Don Celso S. Tuason Avenue in Antipolo is also known as Marikina-Victoria Valley-Antipolo Road. The highway is sometimes called the “killer highway” because of frequent accidents, especially between Sitio Maligaya and Mambugan.
