Strangers' Meeting
Strangers' Meeting is a 1957 British crime drama film. It’s a second feature (a shorter, lower-budget movie) directed by Robert Day and written by David Gordon, based on a novel by Richard Savage. The stars are Peter Arne, Delphi Lawrence, and Conrad Phillips. The film runs 64 minutes and is in English.
Plot: Trapeze artist Harry is wrongly convicted of murder after his partner falls to her death. He escapes from prison and hides in a country pub as he tries to uncover the real killer.
Reception: Critics were mixed or negative. The Monthly Film Bulletin called it a muddled melodrama with little real interest. Kine Weekly said the plot has many twists but the performances and direction don’t come together, and that the film feels low-budget. Picturegoer praised Conrad Phillips as doctor but said the film doesn’t deliver convincing thrills. British critic David Quinlan rated it poor and unconvincing.
