Fennesz
Fennesz, born Christian Fennesz on December 25, 1962, is an Austrian guitarist and electronic music producer known for blending guitar with computer processing to create melodic, glitchy sound textures. He lives in Vienna and releases music on the Touch label. His breakthrough came with Endless Summer (2001).
He started as a member of the Austrian experimental band Maische, released his first EP Instrument in 1995, and followed with the debut album Hotel Paral.lel in 1997 and the 1998 single Plays, which included warped covers of the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys.
Fennesz has since released Venice (2004) and Black Sea (2007) and collaborated with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Sylvian, Jim O’Rourke, Ulver, and King Midas Sound. He also worked with Peter Rehberg on the project Fenn O’Berg.
In 2009 he teamed with Mark Linkous for In the Fishtank 15. Other projects include Szampler (2010), the Seven Stars EP (2011), Bécs (2014), Edition 1 with King Midas Sound (2015), It’s Hard for Me to Say I’m Sorry with Jim O’Rourke (2016), Agora (2019), and Mosaic (2024).
Technically, Fennesz uses Max/MSP and the Ppooll patch with Logic, routing guitar through effects into his computer to create his distinctive sound.
