Stonewall, Mississippi
Stonewall is a small town in Clarke County, Mississippi, along the Chickasawhay River. It covers about 2.7 square miles and sits around 230 feet above sea level. The population was 879 in 2020, down from 1,088 in 2010, with about 405 households and 210 families.
The town grew around a cotton mill opened in 1868. It was named after Confederate general Stonewall Jackson. The mill later operated as Burlington Industries from 1962 until it closed in 2002, costing about 850 local jobs.
Stonewall is about 3 miles southeast of Enterprise on Mississippi Highway 513 and about 9 miles northwest of Quitman, the county seat. The western boundary is formed by the Chickasawhay River. The ZIP code is 39363 and the area code is 601.
Stonewall is served by the Quitman School District, and the county is in the Jones College zone.
