Nocera (singer)
Nocera, born Lulu Nocera in 1967 in Sicily, Italy, is an Italian‑American singer, songwriter, and DJ. She grew up in Parma and moved to the United States at 18. She is known for freestyle and trip‑hop music, as well as her club performances.
In 1986 she signed with Sleeping Bag Records and released "Summertime Summertime." The song was produced by Floyd Fisher and remixed by Kurtis Mantronik, and it appeared on her 1987 debut album Over the Rainbow. The album also features "Let's Go," remixed by Little Louie Vega. "Summertime Summertime" reached No. 2 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play chart in 1986, and "Let's Go" reached No. 8 in 1987.
After the album cycle, Sleeping Bag Records closed in 1991, and her second album was not released. In the mid-1990s she sang backing vocals for acts like Sa-Fire, India, and Information Society, and she toured with Information Society as a backing singer and keyboardist.
In 2000 she formed the trip‑hop group Voice of the Satellites with Gregg Fine and John Roggie; they released a few EPs and explored a blend of hip hop and other sounds. Nocera has worked as a club DJ in New York City and performed in the Freestyle Explosion tour in 2006, reprising her 1980s hits. She also fronts a band called the BB Batts.
