Steve Thonn
Steve Thonn (pronounced TUN) is an American football coach and former Arena League player. He played as a wide receiver and defensive back for the Chicago Bruisers in 1988 and for the Albany Firebirds from 1990 to 1993, helping the Bruisers reach ArenaBowl II before losing to the Detroit Drive. He attended Wheaton College, where he played football, basketball, and baseball and earned Division III All-America honors as a senior. Undrafted in 1988, he began his AFL playing career with the Bruisers and later played for the Firebirds.
As a coach, Thonn has led several AFL teams. He served as an offensive coordinator for the Connecticut Coyotes (1995), Milwaukee Mustangs (1996), and Georgia Force (2004–2007). He later became a head coach for the Houston Thunderbears (1998–2001), Grand Rapids Rampage (2008), and Cleveland Gladiators (2010–2016). He also coached with the Washington Valor in 2017 as offensive coordinator. He was honored as the Marcum-Moss Head Coach of the Year in 2014. His AFL head coaching record stands at 90–114 overall, with a postseason record of 5–5.
