Liberty Monument (Nicosia)
Liberty Monument (Greek: Mnēmeío Eleftherías) is a memorial in Nicosia, Cyprus. It was built in 1973 to honor the EOKA fighters who opposed British rule during the Cyprus Emergency (1955–1959). The monument stands on the Podocattaro Bastion of the Venetian walls. It features several statues, including a Liberty figure on top watching over two EOKA fighters who pull chains to open a prison gate, letting Greek Cypriot prisoners, peasants, and clergy escape British rule.
