Spirou (comics)
Spirou is a Belgian comic strip character and the hero of Spirou & Fantasio and Le Petit Spirou. He was created by Robert Velter (Rob-Vel) for the Spirou magazine in 1938. In the stories, Spirou starts as a hotel elevator operator and bell-boy, then becomes a reporter for the magazine, always in his red uniform. His look has changed over the years, but his spiky red hair and red clothes stayed the same. Spirou is honest and brave, usually trying to help people and fight injustice. He often works with his friend Fantasio, and they find themselves in adventures, with Spip the pet squirrel by his side and, during some periods, the Marsupilami. Le Petit Spirou is a spin-off about a six-year-old Spirou at school, with a different style. A Parc Spirou theme park opened in Monteux in 2018 inspired by the character, and Spirou is featured on the Comic Book Route in Brussels at Place Sainctelette.
