Sol Nascente
Sol Nascente (Rising Sun) is a Brazilian telenovela produced and broadcast by TV Globo. It aired from 29 August 2016 to 21 March 2017, replacing Êta Mundo Bom!. Created by Walther Negrão, Suzana Pires and Júlio Fischer, with Jackie Vellego and Fausto Galvão, and directed by Marcelo Travesso and Leonardo Nogueira. The show features a large ensemble cast including Giovanna Antonelli, Bruno Gagliasso, Leticia Spiller, Marcello Novaes, Aracy Balabanian, Francisco Cuoco, Rafael Cardoso, Henri Castelli, Jean Pierre Noher, Claudia Ohana, Marcelo Faria, Luís Melo and Marcello Melo Jr.
Set in the fictional village of Sol Nascente, the plot follows Mario, the grandson of Italian immigrants who came to Brazil to escape the mafia, and his longtime friend Alice, who was raised by the Japanese Kazuo Tanaka. When Mario falls in love with Alice, who is engaged to César—seemingly perfect but only after her money—their friendship is tested as they navigate love, ambition and family ties.
The series runs for 175 episodes, each about 43 minutes, filmed in locations such as Ilha Grande, Arraial do Cabo, Armação dos Búzios and Guararema. The opening theme is "Minha Felicidade" by Roberta Campos, and two soundtrack volumes were released by Som Livre. The premiere drew about 25.4 points in Greater São Paulo, similar to the debut of the show that preceded it.
