Adis Ahmetovic
Adis Ahmetovic (born 27 July 1993 in Hannover) is a German politician from the Social Democratic Party (SPD). Since October 26, 2021, he has been a member of the Bundestag, representing Stadt Hannover I.
His parents came to Germany from Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Bosnian War. Ahmetovic was born in Germany in 1993 and later became a German citizen at age 22, giving up his Bosnian passport. He also speaks Bosnian.
Education and early career
- He finished high school in Hannover in 2011 and studied at Leibniz University Hannover, focusing on politics, economics and German studies. He earned a Master of Education in 2019 and received a scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
- In 2013, he worked as a research assistant for Bundestag member Kerstin Tack. He later led Mustafa Erkan’s office and then worked for Stephan Weil, the Minister President of Lower Saxony, as an office manager and personal advisor. In 2020 he worked as a consultant in the Lower Saxony State Chancellery.
Political career
- Ahmetovic joined the SPD in 2008. He led the Young Socialists in the SPD Hannover region from 2014 to 2018 and has been co-leader of SPD Hannover since 2020.
- He was elected to the District Council of Bothfeld-Vahrenheide in 2016. In the 2021 federal election, he won the Hannover I constituency to join the Bundestag.
- In parliament, he initially served as the SPD group’s rapporteur on the Western Balkans (2021–2025). Since 2025, he has been the group’s spokesperson on foreign affairs. He sits with the Parliamentary Left, a left-wing faction within the SPD.
Policy focus
- Ahmetovic aims to invest more in education, improve care, and provide affordable housing. He also wants to strengthen Hannover as a place of work.
- He expresses a strong connection to Bosnia and Herzegovina and wants Germany to be a strong advocate for BiH, including supporting its path toward European Union membership.
Personal life
- He lives in Hannover-Bothfeld, is unmarried, and does not practice a religion.
