Santa Isabel do Rio Negro
Santa Isabel do Rio Negro is a large municipality in Amazonas, Brazil. It covers about 62,846 square kilometers and had about 25,865 people in 2020, making it very sparsely populated. The area includes Pico da Neblina, Brazil’s highest mountain at 2,994 meters, located near the border with Venezuela. Access to the peak is restricted because it sits inside a national park and a Yanomami reservation; it lies about 180 kilometers in a straight line from the town center. The municipality also contains part of the Amazonas National Forest and is served by Tapuruquara Airport. It was formerly called Tapuruquara.
