Aitkin Municipal Airport
Aitkin Municipal Airport, also known as Steve Kurtz Field, is a public airport located two nautical miles northeast of Aitkin, Minnesota. It is owned by Aitkin County and the City of Aitkin. The FAA location identifier is AIT and the ICAO code is KAIT. It has no IATA designation.
The airport covers 299 acres and sits at an elevation of 1,205 feet above mean sea level. It has two runways:
- Runway 16/34: 4,018 by 75 feet, asphalt
- Runway 8/26: 3,335 by 150 feet, turf
Opened in the early 1950s with a grass runway, it was paved and lighted in 1975. The airport is named after Steve Kurtz, founder of Steve’s Flight Service.
In the year ending June 30, 2007, there were about 16,000 general aviation aircraft operations (about 43 per day). There were 47 aircraft based at the airport: 94% single-engine, 4% multi-engine, and 2% gliders.
