Skip Avery
Skip Avery, born John N. Avery on February 16, 1913 in Cranford, New Jersey, was an American baseball pitcher in the Negro leagues. He played for the New York Black Yankees from 1946 to 1948. Before that, he pitched for the Colored All-Stars of Plainfield, New Jersey in 1936 and for Marino A.C. of Plainfield from 1941 to 1942 (he also played second base in at least one game). In 1954, he managed the Plainfield Barons in the City Twilight Baseball League. He died January 10, 1977 in Plainfield, New Jersey, at age 63.
