Kaak (cartoonist)
Harish Chandra Shukla (16 March 1940 – 1 January 2025), better known by his pen name Kaak, was an Indian editorial cartoonist and caricaturist who worked in Hindi-language media. He drew for newspapers such as Dainik Jagran, Jansatta, Navbharat Times and Rajasthan Patrika, and also appeared in magazines and on the web portal Prabhasakshi. His first cartoon was published in Dainik Jagran in 1967. Kaak served as the first president of the Cartoonists' Club of India. He was known as the Cartoonist of the masses, using an outspoken, relatable voice to highlight everyday problems, and his work featured strong female characters. Born in the village of Pura in Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh, he initially trained as a mechanical engineer but chose cartooning as his career. He died of a heart attack in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, at the age of 84.
